Maharashtra United Nations Association (MUNA) in collaboration with the United Nations Information Center for India and Bhutan, IEEE-360 and Shah and Anchor Kutchi Engineering College organized the Model United Nations on 28th and 29th March,2014.
There were three committees debating in the Model United Nations Assembly, Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), Human Rights Council (HRC), and Futuristic Security Council (FSC).
The resolution being debated in the DISEC was “Militarization of Arctic”, in the UNHRC it was “Human Rights violation in Somalia” and in the FSC it was “Movement of the U.S.A. troops on the Turkey-Syrian border”. The second day saw a combined FSC and UNHRC act as a crisis committee.
The inaugral program was graced by dignitaries from MUNA – Mr Malhar Chaudhari (Secretary General, MUNYA), Professor V. Kotak (SAKEC) who motivated and congratulated the young participants for taking this initiative and to participate in this event. Mr Malhar spoke about the need for Model UN Assemblies and the role Maharashtra United Nations Youth Association plays in providing a platform to the young in the state to play a meaningful role in spreading the message of the United Nations.
The Model United Nations Session was chaired by Gandhar Suryavanshi with Mr Sanchit Agrawal as the Honorary Secretary General. The executive board members were Gaurav Dasgupta, Abhinav Anand (DISEC),Amogh Chitkara,Sakshi Uniyal(UNHRC),Jay Goradia, Sanchit Agarwal (FSC).
The first day saw the delegates their foreign policy statements and a few moderated caucuses on their respective agendas.
The second day saw a very heated discussion on the amendments to the resolution presented by the delegates.
The session concluded with the prize distribution ceremony. The judges and the executive board committee members of the Model UN Assembly spoke to the participants about developing there negotiating skills and becoming better diplomats. |
