5 July, 2026
The Maharashtra United Nations Association (MUNA), affiliated to the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA), was pleased to formally associate with the Second Edition of the Leo Club Model United Nations (LCMUN 2026), organised by Leo Club Icons Youth on 4–5 July 2026 at the Leonardo Da Vinci School of Design, MGM University, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The association was facilitated through the initiative and support of Mr. Ashraf Ahmed Shaikh, Secretary General, MUNA, and Mr. Malhar Choudhari, Life Member, MUNA, under the leadership and with the blessings of Mr. Mohammed Zakaullah Siddiqui, Chairman, MUNA. Their encouragement supported the conference’s efforts to promote youth engagement with diplomacy and the ideals of the United Nations.
LCMUN 2026 brought together 118 delegates from schools and colleges across Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the surrounding region, providing a vibrant platform for young participants to engage with diplomacy, public policy, negotiation and leadership through the Model United Nations framework.
The conference featured five committees: the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), the Lok Sabha and the International Press. The proceedings were supported by a ten-member Executive Board.
The committee agendas addressed contemporary issues of global and national significance, including regional security in the Middle East, the protection of critical maritime trade routes, gender policy and digital intimacy, electoral reforms in India, and responsible journalism. Through structured debate, research, negotiation and consensus-building, the delegates demonstrated analytical thinking, public speaking and diplomatic skills that reflect the ideals of the United Nations.
The conference was inaugurated in the presence of senior representatives of MGM University, including Mr. Ashish Gadekar, Registrar; Mr. Umair Ansari, Assistant Registrar; and Mr. Harsh Vardhan Jajoo, Director, Nath School of Business and Technology.
The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by Dr. Bhagwat Karad, former Union Minister of State for Finance and former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, who addressed the delegates and presented awards across the various committees.
MUNA’s association with LCMUN 2026 reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging meaningful and high-quality Model United Nations initiatives that promote the ideals and objectives of the United Nations, democratic dialogue, responsible global citizenship and youth leadership across Maharashtra.
Mr. Ashraf Ahmed Shaikh, Secretary General, Maharashtra United Nations Association, places on record his appreciation to MGM University for extending its institutional support and providing the venue and facilities for the conference. He also congratulates Leo Club Icons Youth, the Conference Secretariat led by Mr. Parth Kolte, the Executive Board, Organising Committee and volunteers for their dedicated efforts in successfully organising LCMUN 2026. He further congratulates all participating delegates and appreciates their contribution to strengthening the culture of Model United Nations in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and looks forward to supporting similar initiatives that inspire the next generation of informed, responsible and globally engaged citizens.
